We were established in 1998 offering general insurance to local clients but soon realised that many professional practices were struggling to obtain and source professional indemnity insurance in a quick and simple manner. In 2000, we introduced a Small Practice Professional Indemnity Insurance scheme for sole practitioner property professionals which made the whole process of buying PII easier. We took the time to complete forms over the phone and engage in friendly conversations with clients, gained unique access and formed strong bonds with knowledgeable underwriters and we issued all policy documentation in-house. In 2025, Anchorman was acquired by Gallagher, one of the world’s largest insurance brokerage, risk management, and consulting firms that shares our commitment to personalised service.

We’ve grown organically; our reputation within the industry, coupled with a specialism within just a limited number of industries means we focus our technical expertise on the needs of our clients who regularly recommend colleagues to us. We take pride in our staff – many of whom have been with us for over 10 years, they regularly undertake training to keep skills up to date and most are CII qualified, or working towards this certification. We are based in the heart of Devon– our clients have the benefit of speaking to the same team member year after year.
